Brian Nevins

Vanessa Buia LLC is proud to represent top surf photographer, Brian Nevins. Nevins has shot for Surfer, Surfer’s Path, and Surfer’s Journal among many others covering the likes of Kai Lenny, Rob Machado, and Derek Hynd for twenty years. He is also a lauded action sports photographer who was featured this April in The New York Times with his photos of Zeb Powell, the 21 year old wunderkind who has become ‘the face of Black snowboarding.’ Additionally, Nevins’ humanitarian interests led him to document the people of La Chureca, Nicaragua (the largest open air landfill in Central America covering 4.3 square miles) for which he was awarded the Prix de Paris.

In Brian’s own words,

‘I seek out authenticity and the story within the story.

Meeting people where they are, on their own stage...
A journey that started producing features for action sports and adventure magazines.
A career that paints the pictures of athletes and musicians; it’s all about the story.
A style that is molded from years of deep snow, reeling ocean perfection and the characters that told the story along the way.’

Brian Nevins approaches his craft with such unparalleled respect and appreciation for his subjects that the images he captures have an incredible energy and purity. There is a nearly celestial quality in the way he captures the moments of surfer on the ocean, surfer dancing on the wave, the wait, the solitary trek in and the solitary trek out. It isn’t just about a surfer and a wave. It is the capturing of a transcendental moment- finding it even in the ordinary. And Nevins doesn’t just shoot famous surfers. He also documents the local heroes- surfers and shapers who inspire those around them. In a way, there is something almost more magical about representing the lesser known faces. These are moments caught solely for their individual beauty.

Brian Nevins (b. 1980) is a Brooks Institute of Photography graduate who lives and works in Hampton, NH. Awards include ESM photographer of the year, Olympus Pro Showdown winner and people’s choice, multi year Red Bull Illume finalist, and Prix de Paris 3rd place winner.
