Vanessa Buia is a New York–based contemporary art advisor with 26 years of experience in the contemporary art world. Her work spans acquisition, resale, market analysis, collection strategy, public art, and long-term planning for private collectors, new buyers, designers, and families seeking thoughtful guidance in an often opaque art market.
Vanessa’s career began in the New York gallery world, working at Gagosian in Chelsea, followed by research abroad in Rome in preparation for the founding of her ground floor space, BUIA Gallery, in Chelsea in 2003. In 2009, she founded Vanessa Buia LLC, an independent advisory built on deep market knowledge, trusted relationships, discretion, and a highly personal approach to collecting.
Working across emerging, mid-career, and blue-chip contemporary art, Vanessa helps clients identify meaningful works, understand value, navigate galleries and secondary market opportunities, and build collections with both visual strength and long-term intelligence. Her approach combines rigorous research, intuitive judgment, and a refined understanding of how art lives within a home, collection, larger architectural vision, or discerning investment decision.
At the heart of her practice is a belief that collecting should be both deeply personal and seriously informed. Whether advising on a first acquisition, sourcing a major work, evaluating an artist’s market, or shaping a collection over time, Vanessa brings clarity, candor, and a practiced eye to every step of the process.
